Rumours about Fiat launching the Abarth Punto in June-July were true. However, as several customers had requested to get back the T-Jet, the Italian manufacturer slated the launch of the flagship version of the Linea in this month. As per the earlier plan, the Abarth Punto would have been launched by now.
However, there seems to a tweak in the existing plan and Fiat will introduce the Abarth Punto, sometime around October, after the launch of the Jeep brand. The Jeep brand will be launched officially sometime. At the moment, the company has a few Jeep models at the Chennai R&D centre and the company is already working on marketing and strategy plan for these off-roading vehicles.
The Abarth Punto will share the Punto platform and will role out of the Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra and this is ideally going to be launched either during the festive season, immediately after the Jeep brand’s official arrival or by the end of this year. The Abarth Punto will be the first hot-hatch in India to produce power in excess of 110bhp. This will be propelled by the 1.4-litre T-Jet engine, which Fiat is already offering on the Linea T-Jet.
