The Cupertino based technology behemoth Apple displayed their next venture into automobile infotainment systems. Apple introduced 'CarPlay' with leading manufacturers on the very first eve of 84th Geneva Motor Show; leaving Google and Microsoft, its biggest competitors behind.
Expect the interface of the infotainment system to be similar to that of iOS 7, what it does is, it connects your iPhone (prerequisite to have lightning enabled iPhones, namely, iphone 5s; 5c and 5) with the car infotainment system providing an effortless experience. The 'CarPlay' can read and write text for you, make and receive calls and access the contact list, of-course through 'Siri's' assistance; remember Siri you used to play around on your iphone!
"CarPlay has been designed from the ground up to provide drivers with an incredible experience using their iPhone in the car," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's Vice President of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing. "iPhone users always want their content at their fingertips and CarPlay lets drivers use their iPhone in the car with minimized distraction. We have an amazing lineup of auto partners rolling out CarPlay, and we're thrilled it will make its debut this week in Geneva."
It will also provide navigation assistance through Apple Maps. The turn-by-turn navigation will be displayed on the car's infotainment screen; no doubt you can also anytime ask 'Siri' for turn-by-turn voice guidance. It will also analyse the current traffic condition and displays ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival). The 'CarPlay' will provide access to all your iTunes music playlists, library, audiobooks, podcasts and iTunes Radio. Apple will also provide third party assistance from the iOS App Store for music and radio playback, apps like Spotify and iHeartRadio beside iTunes.
Apple 'CarPlay' will come as an update in iOS 7 and will be available in certain cars from 2014. According to Apple cars from Ferrari, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz will debut 'CarPlay' to their drivers from this week only. The manufacturers follow 'CarPlay' down the road includes Ford, Honda, GM, JLR, Hyundai/Kia, Nissan Motor Company, Suzuki and Toyota Motor Corp amongst others.
