After launching A7 facelift a couple of days back, Audi now introduces a refreshed version of its sportier sibling – Audi RS7 Sportback. Changes in the new RS7 Sportback are elusive compared to A7 externally. Same as the A7, the major alterations included the introduction of optional Audi's Matrix LED lighting system (Currently, offered on A8 saloon). The updated car will go on sale in the third quarter of 2014 in Germany with a price tag of 113,300 EUR (approximately INR 91,21,208.34).
Speaking of the changes, the new RS7 features limited changes to the exterior. At the front, subtly revised single-frame honeycombed grille with Quattro badging featuring razor sharp edges is offered. Audi presents three front packages, namely, Carbon, Matt Aluminum and Gloss Black. Apart from this, the front bumper offers tweaked air inlet. The biggest changes is the incoperation of Matrix LED lighting system (optional) with signature day-time-running-LEDs similar to the one in the updated A7. The taillights mimic the front LED design and feature standard turn indicators compared to dynamic at the front.
The refreshed Audi RS7 comes with standard 20-inch lightweight alloys and an optional 21-inch cast aluminum alloys. The RS7 offers exotic shades with three metallic finish and one with pearl effect - Metallic - Mythos Black, Glacier White, Floret Silver; Pearl - Sepang Blue. On the inside, the car features updated instrumentation cluster and infotainment system with power-packed graphics – courtesy NVIDIA. Moreover, it also sports revised AC louvers and new MMI touch controller.
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member - Technical Development, AUDI AG commented on the introduction of Audi RS7 facelift “The Audi RS 7 Sportback confirms the reputation of the RS models as the superior, top athletes of our brand,” He further added, “The combination of a powerful four-liter V8 engine with cylinder on demand technology, quattro drive and intelligent lightweight design makes the RS 7 Sportback an outstanding piece of sports equipment for any fan of dynamic and yet efficient driving.”
Mechanically, the car carry forwards the ongoing version's 4.0 TFSI turbo charged petrol. The twin turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 belts out 560hp of max power at engine speed 6700rpm. The blistering torque of 700Nm is achieved in between the range of 1,750 and 5,500rpm. The motor is mated to an eight-speed tip-tronic automatic gearbox, which sends power to all the four wheels through a Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The potent powertrain propels this mighty Sportback from naught to 100kmph in 3.9 seconds before topping out at 305kmph (with 'Dynamics Packages' – optional). The vehicle has a C02 emissions of 221 grams per kilometer. Courtesy to the Cylinder-On-Demand (COD) system, Audi claims fuel economy of 9.5 liters per 100km (nearly 10kmpl) in combined cycle. COD shuts off the 4-cylinders when the load is below preset limit thus providing better fuel efficiency.
