Audi R18 Prototypes bag the Top Positions in LeMans 24 Hour Race

The 24 hours of LeMans endurance race made it to the stop line with Audi cars bagging the top three and fifth positions. This is the 11^th victory of this German luxury car brand in this historic race. A new history was created in the last hour of the race when four Audi R18 models including the R18 e-tron Quattro and R18 Ultra Vehicles dramatically grabbed the winning positions. This has happened for the first time that a hybrid car – Audi R18 e-tron Quattro has won the LeMans race.

The LeMans endurance race is one of the most prestigious events in the world of motor sports. Apart from the emerging as a winner for 11^th time, Audi has finished in the first, second and third spots for the fourth time in this race. The Audi R18 e-tron Quattro is a 3.7-liter V6 TDI diesel hybrid which had a tough competitor in the form of Toyota LM030 which is powered by a 3.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine that uses capacitor storage for coupling with a hybrid system.

Audi maintained its dominance in the race for the first quarter which it lost around the 6^th hour for over a minute before an LM030 crashed with a Ferrari 458.The confluence of diesel as well as electric power had benefitted the Audi hybrid with huge torque which ultimately proved the mettle of this German car maker in terms of technology.

After many repairs the engine of second Toyota LM030s gave in which made the car retire and technically gifted the dominance of the second half of the race to the two Audi’s. Audi’s victory of 11 times stands second to Porsche who has won this race for 16 times in total.
