Audi RS5, Maruti Swift, Mahindra XUV 500 win top awards

Three cars Maruti Suzuki Swift, Mahindra XUV 500 SUV and the Audi RS5 sedan have been acknowledged for their success in the domestic car market by the BBC Top Gear India awards. The sports coupe Audi RS5 launched only in the early part of this year has been felicitated with the prestigious ‘Car of the Year 2011’ award during the event held on Saturday in Mumbai.

Maruti’s flagship model Maruti Swift on the other hand has been awarded the ‘Small Car of the Year’ after the overwhelming response with which the car has garnered. Mahindra’s latest launch Mahindra XUV 500 has won not one but two awards at the ceremony. The SUV is considered to be the ‘Best value for money car of the year’, which it is credited aptly. Another feather in the cap was christened as ‘Reader’s Choice Car of the year’ award that underlines the popularity of the car among the consumers.

 Overwhelmed with the recognition, Mayank Pareek, the Managing Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India has said such awards boost their confidence and confirms that they are on the right path to serve the car lovers. Vivek Nayar, Senior VP of Marketing department at Mahindra and Mahindra had been overzealous saying that they are quite content with the recognition received in both arena. While one of the awards for XUV 500 is decided by the jury, the other is responded by the readers’ vote. This recognition for Indian cars by the BBC Top Gear, an elite cars and bikes magazine based in UK is rather a big achievement for the entire car fraternity.

The awards were presented after picking successful cars of the year by undergoing caboodle of study on each car. The experts checked the drivability and performance round the clock in the year and then rewarded the car with right virtues. These awards are being organized every year since 2007 and a very prestigious for every car manufacturer. Altogether awards are given out in around 21 different categories for cars and bikes.
