British car maker Bentley has announced the expansion of its plant headquartered in Crewe. This expansion will be carried with an investment of 40 million pounds, which is so far the biggest for the Volkswagen owned British brand. This new centre will cater to around 300 jobs and will include a new research and development centre. The facility will spread over half a million square feet and include a design studio, technical offices and is a step in process for Bentley’s infrastructure in bringing the world’s first ultra-luxury SUV capable of cracking the 200 mile an hour mark, though it will happen only by 2016.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, commented:"With Bentley's new research and development centre, we will develop a new generation of Bentleys, which will continue our commitment of luxury, performance, quality and engineering excellence. Bentley is the number one luxury car manufacturer in the world and driving more investment into our headquarters and attracting talent is key to continuing our success."
With the existing facility and the upcoming one the total count of manpower at Crewe will go to 1300 jobs in various sectors including engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, marketing and project management. This new investment at Crewe won’t just be beneficial for Bentley but also for its various suppliers across England and the Globe.
Some of the work on the Bentley SUV will be carried out at Crewe with most of the work including one on the next Touareg, Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne will be done at the Slovakia plant.
