The hot war these days in the Indian luxury car market is getting even hotter as the BMW rolls out its highest-selling the spruced up 5 Series. The new 5 series falls in the price range of Rs 38.9 lakh and Rs 58 lakh. It is said that this series will aid the company in taking back the Numero Uno slot from its rival Mercedes Benz.
The new model will actually help in taking back the top position of leadership, says Juergen Eder, MD (production), BMW. He also added that the company is confident that the new BMW 5 Series produced in Chennai will provide an increased momentum to them in the Indian luxury car section.
Earlier BMW was on the top position for being the largest seller of luxury cars. It had a sales figure of 3,941 units for the year ended March’10. But they lost this position to Mercedes. The reason behind this was, that the 5 Series in fact went out of production in the beginning of this year. Similarly the third spot contender Audi is also planning for the launch of its new products like A8, Q3 and Q7 at its Aurangabad plant.
Since 2007, the company has been successful in selling around 3,700 units of the 5 Series sedans. The new 5 Series sedan with petrol and diesel options was unveiled by the company in April.
To retain its market position, Mercedes-Benz is also planning for its new launches. It had earlier sold 1,118 cars for three months ending in June this year. Wilfried Aulbur, Mercedes-Benz India CEO said that the company will make itself more consolidated with few surprise launches.
