Among the string of launches from the luxury car manufacturer BMW, a 6-series Gran coupe is also one of them. It makes the news all the more interesting when there is an India launch slated for the new coupe. If rumours are to be believed, the new BMW 6-series will be launched globally before making it to the Indian car market. 2012 Geneva Motor Show is where the new version is expected to break the cover. The new version of the famous four-seater coupe is expected to be more on lines on the Mercedes-Benz CLS Class and Audi A7 existing in the Indian markets. The major distinction from the previous models are the two new doors on the coupe for extended comfort.

The seating capacity will be the usual with two on the front seat and two rear seats which were just ideal for the kids in the outgoing model. However, the overall length of the coupe is increased by 4.4 inches with a chunk of additional room for the rear seat occupants. It is inarguably the coupe carrying the same exteriors without a change by jiffy to mark the distinction. The increased length and the additional door on the either side are the only changes the BMW can boast of. The quite upmarket new caramel and white dual toned vintage leather interiors are a literal visual delight for any observer. The BMW Gran coupe for the global markets has a 3.0 L 6-cylinder engine for the 640i base model that churns out an uncompromising power of 315 Bhp. However, there is no hint about the 640d model that comes with a diesel counterpart of the same 3.0 L engine under the hood particularly for the Indian market.

The posh model out of the two, the 650i is powered by a majestic 4.4 L V8 engine to produce a roaring 445 Bhp power. So, we will have to wait until the launch for more details to emerge. The launch on the other hand is not likely to take place anytime before the end of 2012. Another round of fresh rumours might however keep us hooked up until then with details like the new BMW 6 series price etc. A convertible based on the 6-series coupe is supposed to be the most expensive of the three convertibles offered by BMW India. The latest to join the convertible range is the BMW 3-series convertible. This makes us speculate, a convertible version of the coupe might also be on the cards from the German luxury car manufacturer soon.
