BMW Group crosses one million mark in first six months of 2014

Ace automotive group BMW sold more than a million vehicles in the first half of 2014, highest ever in the first six months of the year. With an increase of 6.9 percent, the group delivered 1,020,211 vehicles to customers across the globe, while 954,501 vehicles were sold in the corresponding period last year. In the month of June, BMW's sales touched an all-time high and 4.8 percent more- 1,93,342 cars were delivered, as against same period's 1,84,489 last year.
“This is the first time we’ve sold more than a million cars in the first half of the year and underscores the strength of our premium brands within the BMW Group,” said Ian Robertson, Member of the BMW AG Board of Management, Sales and Marketing BMW. “June is the latest in a long line of record months and the figures confirm we’re on the right track to achieve our target of delivering more than 2 million vehicles in 2014. We aim to continue our sales growth in the second half of the year, when exciting new vehicles like the BMW X4 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will come onto the market.”
BMW's independent sales in the month saw a jump of 7.3 percent at 1,64,214 units as compared to 1,53,075 units last year. On yearly basis, 8,86,347 BMWs have been delivered to customers across the world with a growth of 10.2 percent. While the sub-brand Mini saw a downfall of 11.4 percent at 1,31,896 cars sold in the first six months, in comparison to 1,48,799 units last year. In June, 7.6 percent less MINIs were delivered to customers at 28,738 units. The group's ultra-luxury brand Rolls-Royce Motor Cars sold 1,968 units in the first six months, recording an uplift of 33.4 percent as compared to 1,475 units last year. Global sales for motorcycle arm of the group- BMW Motorrad totaled 70,978 motorcycles and maxi-scooters in the first half of the year, recording 9.3 percent growth. While the June sales stood at 12.541 units with 5.7 percent negative growth.
