After the updated M5, BMW has now brought-in the M3 sedan and M4 coupe in India. Priced at INR 1.19cr & 1.21cr, the M-Twins will be imported as CBUs (completely built units) in the country.
Till the previous generation, only the 'M3' moniker existed, and was used on both sedan and coupe body styles of M-Division’s performance version of the 3-series model. But with the latest generation, BMW introduced the 'M4' moniker, in an effort to give a clear differentiation between the two.
Despite new nomenclature, the M4 is mechanically identical to the M3. Both come equipped with the new 3.0 litre, twin-turbocharged, six-cylinder petrol engine, good for 431 bhp of max power between 5500-7300 rpm along with 550 Nm of peak torque between 1850-5500 rpm. This pinnacle thrust is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. With an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph, the Bimmers sprints 0-100 kmph in just 4.1 seconds.
The M-Twins are now 25 per cent more fuel efficient as well as prone to lower CO2 emissions, inspite of increased power and torque figures than the predecessor. Its lighter than before too, all attributed to the increased use of lightweight materials such as carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and aluminium for a number of chassis and body components.
