BMW India, a subsidiary of German based luxury car maker BMW, today announced that it has recorded a 26.56 per cent jump in its sales in March this year. The company managed to sell 605 units of its cars in March as compare to the 478 units sold in the same month of last year. This is the highest ever sales by BMW in India since it started its operation in the country.
Company's March sales were the highest it has achieved in India so far and is also the highest ever monthly sales for a luxury car maker in India, said BMW India President Peter Kronschnabl to reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Where company managed to sell 298 units of BMW 3-Series sedan, it sold 183 units of BMW 5-Series sedan. With this, company sold 54 units of BMW 7-Series sedan, 11 units of BMW Gran Turismo and 13 Units of Z4 Roadster. However sales of the SUV segment cars of BMW were not that well, as it managed to sell just 3 units of its BMW X3, 20 units of BMW X5 and 26 units of BMW X6. In the first quarter of this year, BMW's total sales were at 1314 units.
Mr Kronschnabl added that the company's production at the Chennai plant running at full capacity, it will announce a decision on further expanding it by the middle of this year. With the assembly of X1 scheduled to begin later this year at the Chennai plant, the company will definitely need to ramp up its capacity. BMW India is aiming to sell 4,000 units this calendar year, as compare to 3,619 units it sold last year.
