Despite the reasonable price offered on Fiat 500, the small car had not been a traffic puller. However, BMW is willing to take on the risk with the small car and likely to be in accordance with the initial sales figures. What Volkswagen and Fiat have not managed to achieve due to lack of proper exposure for their models; BMW hopes to capitalize on providing the exclusive distribution channel and dealerships for Mini Cooper across the country. The Mini Cooper is likely to be launched in India in two variants, a two door coupe and as a convertible. The Mini Cooper is going to attract a custom duty of 102% as it makes to the Indian shores as a CBU. The Mini Cooper heritage takes back to its first parent company, British Leyland Motor Corp. to 1959, which was sold to the Rover Group and then changed hands with British Aerospace, which in turn sold to BMW AG. BMW cars, which stands to be the number one in the luxury segment, intends to further strengthen its position with the launch of the Mini brand in India.
