German car giant, BMW, has officially unveiled the 2016 X1 before its tentative launch in the upcoming Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung aka Frankfurt Motor Show. The all new X1 looks more close to its elder SUV sibling and sheds that wagon like look as was there in earlier X1, the one we have right now. X1 is based on the manufacturer's latest, in its own lineup, front-wheel-drive UKL platform, as in the Mini family.
At the exteriors, the 2016 X1 gets a sportier front bumper with flowing lines and a more composed kidney grill that sits between the all-LED headlights with the signature corona rings as DRLs. On the sides, one will notice a little edgier windscreen perimeter and a new set of alloy wheels. While the rear embark the presence of sleek all LED taillight, raked tailgate and new rear bumper with skid plates.
Since the car is front wheel drive, the motor is transversely placed rather than longitudinally this not only make the placement compact but also liberates more space on the inside. Other interior highlights include cloth seats for entry level variants, silver and gloss black trims, a freestanding 6.5-inch infotainment screen. While there are a lot of optional features like heads-up display, Driver Assistance Plus package with Active Cruise control, Lane change Warning, Traffic Jam Assist, Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking.
BMW has offered the 2.0 litre inline 4-cylinder petrol motor in two states of tune, one producing 189.4 bhp while the other one generates 227.9 bhp. On the other hand, it gets the 2.0 litre inline 4-cylinder turbo diesel offered with 3 different outputs, one with a torque of 330 Nm, another with 400 Nm and the last with a massive 450 Nm. Moreover, these engine options are expected to get two additional entry level choices with the 1.5 litre 3-pot motor from Mini, in diesel as well as in petrol.
Though, what India will be getting isn’t mentioned yet by the company but the entry level variants named as X1 sDrive16d (114.4 bhp) and X1 sDrive 18i(134.2 bhp) stand a good chance of landing out here. Result? Even lower prices.
Speaking of its launch it will only come to India by year end or next year at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo.
