BMW X5 rolls out from Chennai plant; deliveries to start from June end

Following the promise to bring BMW X5 to its customers within a month of its launch, the Bavarian manufacturer rolled out the diesel variant of X5 from its production plant in Chennai. Last month, the company launched the third generation of its premium SUV X5 at a staggering price of Rs 70.9 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and if you remember, the SUV was launched by the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. With the production of X5 started, the company will commence its deliverers by the June end.
Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India commented that, "The all-new BMW X5 takes things to a new level with more sportiness, spaciousness and comfort, offering customers a 'luxury all-roader' that meets the most exacting and varied demands". He further added, “Response for the third generation BMW X5 was good and said the company might consider ramping up the production to meet the huge demand in the Indian market.”
According to a statement from the company, the X5 received an overwhelming response from buyers which resulted in pushing of waiting period to three months in the country. Now with the production finally started, the company looks to mend the gapping period.
At the front profile, BMW X5 gets 'air curtains' for improved aerodynamics, while at the rear, the vehicle sports redesigned LED tail lamps and offers split boot lid. The SUV also gets redesigned two-tone bumper and a new twin trapezoidal exhaust mufflers. The car is slightly larger than the predecessor with dimensions - length 4,886 mm, height 1,762 mm and a wheelbase of 2,933 mm.
Powering the X5 xDrive 30D is the in-line six-cylinder, 3.0 litre, V6, twin turbo charged diesel motor. The engine churns maximum power of 258bhp at 4000rpm and a peak torque of 560Nm in between the range of 1,500-3,000rpm. The engine is coupled to a 8 speed Steptronic automatic transmission delivering the output to all the 18 inch radial wheels. The musky engine enables X5 to achieve 0 to 100kmph in mere 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 230kmph. The vehicle delivers a certified fuel economy of 15.35kmpl.
Robert Frittrang, Managing Director, BMW Plant Chennai said that the Indian consumers strongly associate the BMW brand with exclusively authentic luxury products. "We are confident that the all-new BMW X5 produced in Chennai will further increase our momentum in the Indian luxury car segment".
