Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014, the new 3rd generation X5 crossover seems all-set for the launch in India by this festive season. The company has even taken off the old X5 from its official Indian website, hinting towards its arrival soon in the Indian market. Earlier. It was unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show 2013, and is launched in several international markets. However, the crossover has received several upgrades over its interiors and exteriors. We expect the new X5 to be locally assembled at company's Chennai facility, which would help the German carmaker to price it competitive.
Exteriorly, the new X5 appears a lot different than its predecessor and has got taller stance making it look more agressive. The sporty appeal gets enhanced with new broader kidney grille with chrome surrounds and headlamps with LED inserts. Also featuring sharp and edgier lines across the body; combined with roof rails, skid plates and bootlid spoiler and new alloys, makes new X5 more bold and muscular. The other innovative technologies like BMW's iDrive system, driver assits and others may become a part of new BMW X5. Dimensionally, the new crossover has grown 32mm longer, 14mm taller and 5mm wider, when compared to old X5. While inside the cabin, we can expect the car to come equipped with 10.2-inch control display monitor, head up display, night vision with human and animal detection, collision warning and 360 degree surround view parking assistant.
Mechanically, the new X5 has received no change and is continues to be powered by the same 4.4-litre petrol mill that belts out max power of 407bhp and peak torque of 600Nm. The diesel X5 with a 3.0-litre diesel engine produces max power of 245bhp and top torque of 540Nm.
