Car manufacturers look forward to 2012 despite mixed bag growth in December

The leading car manufacturer of the country Maruti Suzuki India car sales decline drastically in the month of December while the year- end has lifted the spirits of the other OEMs. Toyota Motors is one of the auto giants to see a whopping 151% rise in the car sales in India during last month while the second largest car manufacturer in the country Hyundai India sales also grew by 3.64% including the exports.

However, the Korean car manufacturer had witnessed better growth in domestic passenger car sales in India with a 12.8% jump from the corresponding period last year. Ford India has also seen a dramatic 39% growth in car sales in December against December 2010. The extremities however, have been the Maruti India who witnessed the passenger car sales slip by 8.4% due to the unfavourable conditions within its factory premises, while Toyota India has survived the dire conditions seamlessly. The floods in Thailand have affected the Japanese car manufacturer than it has anticipated where the company's key manufacturing unit is located unlike Honda India who gave in to the situation.

Honda India is another car manufacturer who is left to console itself with a 1,072 units where Honda City sedan had garnered the maximum sale for the auto major with 600 units on the board. The year 2012 could portray a different picture altogether especially for those who have seen an unusually bad times in 2011. Maruti India hopes to see its sales surge with the new Maruti Ertiga MPV in hand for launch where it also has a new concept compact SUV apart from the Maruti Suzuki Swift sport and Swift hybrid for a display at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo.

Maruti Ertiga could be just what the domestic auto giant needs at the moment with a new 1.4 L petrol engine and a 1.3 L Multijet engine and whole new exteriors to meet the growing demand for MPVs in India. The other ace card could be the compact SUV which is though in a concept form at the moment could be the turning point for sales for Maruti India. Toyota India has the 2012 Toyota Camry and the new Toyota Fortuner. Hyundai India has its own flock of cars where the Honda HND-7 MPV concept , a new compact SUV concept and the Hyundai Veloster are enough to have the consumers automatically dragged to its stall at the Auto Expo.
