The past week’s highlights include new launches, variant revisions of two SUVs, and price hike of a popular Mahindra SUV

New Launches

Tata Dark Editions: Tata has introduced Dark Editions of the Nexon, Nexon EV, and Altroz. While it already offered the Harrier Dark Edition, the carmaker has relaunched it with a few minor enhancements. All Dark Edition models get blacked-out treatment inside and out and command a premium over their corresponding standard counterparts.

2021 Range Rover Evoque: Land Rover has launched the 2021 Range Rover Evoque. The updated SUV is now offered in only two variants and gets a bunch of much-needed features, pushing the prices further north.

Land Rover Defender 90: While the Defender 110 was launched in October 2020 in India, Land Rover has now launched the Defender 90, a shorter wheelbase version available in a three-door configuration only. Not only that, Land Rover has also silently introduced a 3-litre mild-hybrid turbo-petrol engine for both body styles. Head here to check the variant-wise prices.

Updates From Carmakers

Citroen’s Sub-4m SUV: Citroen is one of the brands looking to have a slice of the pie with its sub-4m SUV. While it was expected to launch its SUV by Diwali 2021, the latest announcement from the carmaker means we won’t get to see it anytime soon.

Jeep’s EV Plans Revealed: Jeep’s parent group, Stellantis, recently apprised us with its plans of introducing EVs across its lineup. For now, four Jeep models (Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Renegade and Compass) have hybrid tech on board but the carmaker has set a deadline by when all its models will have at least one fully electric variant.

Jeep 7-seater SUV’s Interior Teased: The Compass-based 7-seater SUV is about to be unveiled soon overseas. Now, ahead of its official reveal, Jeep has released a video teasing its interior, showing similarities with that of the 5-seater model’s cabin.

Variant Revisions

Hyundai Venue Variants Rejigged: As a way to mark the Venue’s 2-year anniversary in India, Hyundai has made some revisions to the variant lineup of the SUV. In the process, it has launched two new trims but has discontinued six variants, leading to a marginal rise in its prices.

Ford Endeavour Loses Its Base Variant: Ford has axed the previously offered base-spec Titanium 4x2 variant of the Endeavour. Consequently, the full-size SUV is available in only three variants, resulting in an increased starting price making it costlier than some of its rivals.

Price Hikes

Mahindra Thar Prices Hiked: The Thar was launched in October 2020 and has now received its third price hike. While the previous two price updates had cumulatively made the SUV costlier by up to Rs 40,000, the latest one sees the biggest increment till date. Alongside the Thar’s price revision, Mahindra has also stepped up the prices of other models as well.
