This week witnessed new launches from carmakers like Tata and Maruti. Finally, the wait for Scorpio N has come to an end as Mahindra has begun its deliveries. We have also compared the Brezza and Grand Vitara, while spy shots of the upcoming Citroen C3 EV have surfaced online

Launches:

• Tata Tiago EV: Tata has launched its new electric offering, the Tiago EV, at an introductory starting price of Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The most affordable EV in the country comes with two battery pack options with an MIDC-claimed range of up to 315km.

• Maruti Grand Vitara: Earlier this week, Maruti launched its flagship compact SUV, the Grand Vitara. It is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild and strong-hybrid powertrains and also gets an all-wheel drivetrain (AWD).

• Toyota Hyryder mild-hybrids: Soon after launching its strong-hybrid variants, Toyota revealed the prices of Hyryder’s mild-hybrid variants. Developed jointly with Maruti, the Hyryder uses the same powertrain as the Grand Vitara, but gets distinctive styling elements.

• Mercedez-Benz EQS 580: The EQS 580 4MATIC, Mercedes’s luxury electric sedan, was launched in India at a price of Rs 1.55 crore (ex-showroom). The first locally manufactured luxury EV gets a 107.8kWh battery pack with a range of 857km. It is packed with a 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen display, gesture controls, ventilated front seats with massage function and more.

Mahindra commences the delivery of Scorpio N

Mahindra has started delivering the Scorpio N to its customers after it opened its bookings on July 30. The SUV received over 1,00,000 bookings in just 30 minutes. Mahindra is prioritizing the delivery of the top-spec Z8L variant and plans to deliver 7,000 units by October 5. The Scorpio N’s prices range from Rs 11.99 lakh to 23.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mandatory six airbags in all cars

After making rear seatbelt reminders standard, it was planned to make six airbags mandatory in all cars this October, but this move has been delayed by a year due to global supply chain shortages. This has given manufacturers some time to improve their designs and install six airbags in all models.

Cars spied this week

• Citroen C3 EV: The Citroen C3 EV was spied again ahead of its launch. This time, the EV was spied without any camouflage at what seemed like a fast charging station. The C3 EV is expected to launch in India next year.

• Tata Harrier Facelift: The facelifted 2023 Tata Harrier was spied for the first time recently under camouflage. The spy shot hints at a redesigned front facia. But the biggest highlight was the presence of a radar, hinting at possible ADAS features.
