The cars in India will soon possess a fuel efficiency labels that could facilitate the car buyer before making their final decision of which car to buy. One will now don't have to go by the reviews and the salesmen talks.

With the ever raising fuel prices, the most asked question by the Indian buyer is “what is the mileage of the car?” and with the fuel efficiency labels in the market, the consumers won't be fooled anymore. The efficiency labels will be given by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

To kick start with, the labels on the cars will be voluntary, but from March 2012 it will surely become compulsory. None of the new cars will be without labels as these labels will be representing how fuel efficient is the car in its segment. Now the Auto industry will have to be ready and equipped to meet all the targets concerning fuel efficiency by the time of 2015-16. The major improvements that are expected to be seen will be in the SUVs.

It has been quite a battle for the Bureau of Energy Efficiency with the ministry and the other giant auto players in the market. It took almost 2 years to win this fight. Now the fuel efficiency labels will not have any problems anymore. All the car makers will make sure that on the whole fuel mileage of the cars is taken into account per year. The standard of the fuel efficiency will be corrected and improved regularly to make certain that the engines are enhanced and healthy.

The Bureau has a high expectation of improving fuel efficiency of the cars by 20 to 25%, which is surely quite impressive. All the car makers will have to follow the rules and regulations set by the bureau and those to fail to do so, will have to go through penalties under the name shame policy.
