General Motors India has been trying everything to make the Sail duo successful in India, the sail sedan however is doing pretty good for the company, it's getting tough for the company to sell the Sail hatchback in numbers. And that has been the reason General Motors cut down the prices of the vehicle in March, while at the launch it was priced at Rs 4.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the price came down to Rs 4.19 lakh. In fact, a new diesel base variant too was launched at an attractive price of Rs 5.29 lakh. Now a news published on Indiacarsbikes claims that the GM will launch the refreshed variants of the vehicle with better plastic quality and better interiors in order to give an upmarket feel to the cars.
Since both the cars are new to the market, so expect the refreshed versions to come in an year time. The interiors of the cars are not as good as their competitors, so a much better quality should help the company project the vehicles. ICB further claims that the steering wheel too is expected to get a metallic Chevrolet Bow Tie badge.
Launched in February 2013, the Chevrolet Sail sedan is already one of the top-selling vehicles for the company in India. Sail sedan has already clocked over 7,000 bookings within 2 months of its launch. However, despite being one of the most affordable hatchbacks of its league, the Sail hatchback could not lure buyers, new base diesel variant is an attempt to escalate the numbers seeing the growing market for diesel hatches in India.
The diesel version of both the cars derive their power from the same 1.3-litre MultiJet engine, that GM co-developed with the Fiat in JV, so it enjoys the right to use the engine. Will these efforts bring what GM is aiming at, is early to comment. So, we leave it on time.
