Key Takeaways
-
The Hyundai Creta remains the segment leader in the compact SUV space selling just a little less than 2 lakh units. Interestingly, while Hyundai has had an overall sales dip this fiscal year, the Creta has seen year-on-year (YoY) growth of 20 percent. It remained the brand’s best-selling model accounting for over 30 percent of the total sales.
-
The Maruti Grand Vitara followed the Creta in this list by selling over 1 lakh units and posting a gain of 2 percent over last year. Although it isn’t the top-selling model in Maruti’s portfolio, the carmaker’s mass market dominance and its hybrid offering has given the compact SUV a good push in its segment.
-
The Kia Seltos has seen a significant dip in sales this year, by 28 percent. It was the second bestseller for Kia in FY25 after the Sonet, and was also the only model in the brand’s lineup to register a decline in sales.

The Toyota Hyryder has shown the most impressive performance in this roster. It witnessed the highest YoY growth of 23 percent. It also remained to be the second best-selling car for Toyota after their popular Innova MPV.
-
The Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt are the only two SUV coupes in this segment, both of whichwere launched just last year. While their individual yearly growth cannot be analysed as yet, amongst the two, the Basalt had a significantly underwhelming month-on-month run in the market compared to the former.
-
SUVs like the Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Citroen Aircross, and MG Astor have seen a massive drop in business compared to the previous year, ranging from about 20 to 40 percent low. In comparison, the Volkswagen Taigun has had a modest dip of just 3 percent in its sales from FY24.
