Company plans Nissan Micra component cost reduction

Nissan Motors plans to place its popular hatchback Nissan Micra in the mass A2 segment to cement its position in the Indian auto sector. As heard from sources, a month back cost engineers team came to India for talks over cutting the component cost with the suppliers. The senior team of the cost engineering department was headed by Takeshi Kawai from the Nissan Motors to India. As per a source, the team was visited India to review the engineering aspects of the Nissan cars and also to work on the its Indian sourcing. In the domestic car markets several cars have been launched and pricing plays a vital role in India. Nissan Micra starts with a price tag of Rs 3.99 lakh to Rs 5.29 lakh. The hatchback was introduced in July, 2010 and as many as 5,000 cars are already rolling out and if exports are also counted it crosses over 9,000 units since October, 2010. It is speculated that Nissan Motors is working on to make the hatchback Nissan Micra which is more competitive in terms of its price. The engineers are also looking for the quality components.

It will be interesting to see how when at one hand, components cost are touching the skies, Nissan plans to slash the cost down. if succeeded, Indian market would have yet another quality car at a very good price. At present, Nissan Micra is being manufactured at the company's Chennai manufacturing unit which is in joint venture with French counterpart Renault. The auto giants has jointly invested Rs 4,500 crore which holds a yearly capacity of four lakh car every year. The company expects to roll out the hatchback in more than 100 countries which includes auto markets of Europe and different parts of Africa.

Nissan with its partner Renault, the French auto giants are keen to capture 5 per cent of the domestic auto market by 2014. The auto giants will increase its portfolio with five cars each. Nissan is working on to introduce its multi purpose vehicle in the Indian auto markets. The Japanese auto giants is planning to launch nine cars in the domestic auto sector to increase its markets share, it will help the auto maker to strengthen its position. Nissan Motors in India is known for its technology and luxury it affix in its cars they are the luxury saloon Nissan Teana and Nissan 370Z, the premium SUV Nissan X Trial. As per the company, the new cars will be produced in the Chennai facility. Nissan and Renault is also coming with Bajaj Auto and working on making a low cost car.
