Concept of Wireless Electric Vehicles (EVs) for future

Published On Nov 03, 2010 03:43 PM By Meenal

The concept of Electric Vehicles (EVs) is getting stronger each day with the gradual depletion of non renewable energy sources. With time, automakers are trying out new and interesting concepts incorporated in electric vehicles to reduce dependence on non renewable fuel . For instance, the concept that was earlier adopted by the aircrafts will now be followed by the cars. This concept comprises of adopting disk brakes to fly-by-wire replacing the weight of mechanical links. Another concept is of the fly-by-wireless. In this fly by wireless concept, the actuators are given instructions and they are monitored without wires. A remote signalling system is used in this concept. In short, the whole vehicle gets monitored by wireless system in the fly-by-wire concept. The wireless concept, to and from the vehicle is the second big concept. According to Dr Peter Harrop, Chairman, IDTechEx, something same as this concept has already been tested with the cars.

Auto major BMW is analyzing the wireless monitoring of electric car batteries. This monitoring will be done from the service station and it will make the driver attentive for any requirement of any kind of service. The Ford company is leveraging the wireless technology and internet for testing and refining the management of the battery systems for its electric and hybrid vehicles. The engineers who are engaged in such kind of research, collect real-time performance data from batteries and study it in the laboratory. The objective of such research is to maximise energy capacity, also the power capabilities and the durability of lifecycle. Such methods have helped Ford in lessening test-fleet downtime. These method have also helped in doubling the testing capability of the company's battery laboratory. Whenever, any software update chances occur, the system engineers get the information through an email.

Auto major Ford is planning to launch two all-electric vehicles which will be the Transit Connect Electric in North America (during late 2010) and in Europe in the year 2011. The other one will be the Ford Focus Electric likely to be introduced in 2011 in North America and in Europe in 2012.
