Earlier this month we reported that Datsun is likely to introduce a new variant of its popular hatchback, the redi-Go. Now, the automaker has confirmed the rumours by inviting us for the media drive of the 1.0-litre redi-Go in July. Although the official launch date hasn't been revealed yet, according to Datsun dealers, the new redi-Go will hit showrooms by the end of July.
As you should already know, the Datsun redi-Go and the Renault Kwid share the same CMF-A platform and are also powered by the same engines. However, while the Kwid is available with two engine options, 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre, the redi-Go is only offered with the one engine option, 0.8-litre.
The redi-Go will get the same 1.0-litre engine from the Kwid. While the transmission hasn't been confirmed yet, it most likely will be coupled to a 5-speed manual with the possibility of an optional AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) by the end of this year.
Currently, under the Kwid's hood, the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine produces 68PS of maximum power and 91Nm of peak torque. It is likely to stay in the same tune in the redi-Go as well.
The Kwid 1.0 is around Rs 22,000 to Rs 25,000 more expensive than the similarly equipped 0.8-litre variant, so the upcoming 1.0-litre redi-Go is also likely to be Rs 22,000 to Rs 25,000 more expensive than the 0.8-litre versions.
Currently, the redi-Go starts at Rs 2.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi); however, the base variant of the redi-GO might not be available with the bigger 1.0-litre engine. The 1.0-litre engine is likely to be available in the top-end variants and which will cost between Rs 3.10 lakh to Rs 3.50 lakh.
