A production-spec version of Datsun Redi-Go was spotted making rounds on the streets of Chennai. The test mule of this car has been spotted for the first time on Indian roads. The Redi-Go made its world debut at the 2014 Auto Expo, as Nissan’s attempt at an Alto 800 competitor. The test car was heavily camouflaged but one can still spot the tail-light clusters and wedge shaped rear fascia, which clearly indicate that Datsun is sticking to the original concept design. The car finds its foundations in the low cost CMF-A platform, which is found in the Kwid. This might translate into similar dimension for the two cars though Datsun insists that it will be an altogether different vehicle.
Also depending on its launch, there is a possibility that the car may come with an automatic transmission option, along with the standard 5-speed manual.
Both Datsun Redi-Go and Renault Kwid will distinguish themselves with contrasting design philosophies. Datsun Redi-Go will feature what seems to be a sharp, Origami-esque design, whereas Renault Kwid embodies a self-proclaimed SUV-inspired analogy. The car is expected to be launched in India next year.
