Japanese automaker Toyota has retailed 12,747 units in the domestic market last month – its highest December sale in the last five years – registering a growth of 29 per cent. The automaker also exported 1,346 units of the Etios series last month, which combined with the domestic sales, resulted in a total of 14,093 units in December 2016. Comparing these figures with that of December 2015, Toyota had sold 10,442 units in the domestic market and exported 441 units of the Etios series.
N. Raja, director and Sr. vice president, sales and marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “December is usually a high selling month as most manufacturers try and liquidate the year end stocks and come up with schemes offering huge discounts on products. In our case, we ensure a lean inventory at all times both on our side as well as the dealer and we have been able to maintain the same in the year end as well. This indicates the strong demand in the market for our products and especially the demand for the new Crysta and Fortuner which are new launches. Both these products have received an overwhelming response and we are very grateful to our customers for that.”
Toyota is riding high on the popularity of the second-generation models of the Innova and the Fortuner, which were launched in 2016. In December 2016, the Innova Crysta has grown over 65 per cent whereas the new Fortuner has registered over 174 per cent growth, thus massively contributing to the December sales milestone. Additionally, the Platinum Etios has also registered a growth of 7 per cent in the last quarter.
