Eaton Hybrid Systems Achieve 160 Million Kilometers of Service, Save 15 Million Liters of Fuel

The Eaton Corporation (NYSE:ETN), the diversified industrial manufacturer and the market leader in hybrid power systems for the commercial buses and trucks has declared that buyers of the company's hybrid system have jointly accumulated service of 160 million kilometers, which cut down on diesel fuel consumption by almost 15 million litres and emissions by 40,000 metric tons.

In the Commonwealth Dames in New Delhi, the Eaton brought the hybrid electric system with the all new Tata Motors electric hybrid Starbuses in the domestic city bus market. It was used as a transport for special foreign dignitaries. Tata Motors, the Indian auto mobile maker operated four buses with Delhi Transport Corporation on few routes during the Commonwealth games, together with Eaton Corp.

Across globe, almost 4,500 Eaton hybrid system are being used in school city transport, refrigerated, package and beverage delivery trucks, recycle and refuse trucks, utility vehicles and others. Eaton started offering a range of electric vehicle charging system which will help in cutting down on the fuel consumption and emissions.

Krishnakumar Srinivasan, the Managing Director, Eaton Truck Division in India said that, Tata Motors in the domestic bus market is an innovative leader and is working towards greenhouse gas emissions and reducing energy use. Eaton is placed to render well effective power management technologies which help the buyers to reduce its cost and energy emissions. The Hybrid-powered buses greatly effect the environment in a major way. The company has received overwhelming response from the buyers in Europe, Asia and North America. The company hopes to render the same response from the Indian market for the hybrid technology.

Eaton with Tata Motors has especially designed the buses on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The hybrid system is matted with 5.9 litre Cummins CNG powertrain which is rated at 172 kilowatt (230HP) along with electric motor to churn a power of 44 kilowatt. The company has matched the technology with Eaton transmission automated six speed storing the the energy in four lithium-ion batteries placed under the seat. Eaton also comes with a unique technology of start- stop. With this additional technology the bus automatically stops when the bus is stationary and starts when the power is required. This system helps in cutting down the emissions, at the bus stops.

Eaton has wide range of hybrid system for the commercial vehicle application and more. The Eaton hybrid electric, hybrid hydraulic and plug-in hybrid electric comes in or are working on various truck models which includes DAF, Ford, International, Iveco, Crane Carrier Corporation, Freightliner, Kenworth and Peterbilt and for buses it is Tata Motor, BCI, Foton, Heng Tong, King Long, Shen Long, JNP, Solaris, YoungMan, Yutong and Zhongtong.

Eaton hybrid system comes with lots of benefits such as fuel saving around 35 per cent and also nearing to almost similar reduction in emissions, longer brake life and also idle time cut down to 87 per cent which helps the buyers to reduce on its operating costs.
