Fiat India has been working very proactively on expanding its dealership base in the country, as they want to make sure that they have enough dealer point before they launch all the upcoming cars they are planning. Fiat Group has now said that is is planning to expand its network to 125 dealerships across the country by 2013 end, in order to capture 5 per cent market share in the Indian market in next three years. Fiat ended its distribution agreement with Tata on April 1 this year.
Speaking on the company's plans of network expansion, Fiat Group Automobiles India Head- Sales & Network Ravi Bhatia said, "We will have about 125 partners by end of this calendar year (2013) but the facilities active will be 100 and we will be covering 70 per cent of the market,"
Currently, Fiat has 54 dealerships in the country, "Our focus is on building network across the country, building brand and bringing out innovative products for Indian market," said Fiat Chrysler (India) President and MD Nagesh Basavanhalli. "Fiat India is aggressively focusing on increasing its footprint in India and this (opening of dealership) launch is in continuation of rapid expansion strategy," he added.
Fiat India's sales came down to 6,000 units in 2012 from around 16,000 units in 2011, bringing the company's market share less than one percent. So, to earn the bigger market share, the company is planning to roll out several new products, variants of the existing vehicles and the 'Jeep' brand in India.
