Fiat not to bring any new model to India in 2012
On the eve of Fiat Café launch at New Delhi early this month, Fiat India's CEO Rajeev Kapoor had been quite vocal about the future plans for Fiat in the country. Though, Fiat at the moment hopes to play its cards pretty close to its chest, there are a couple of interesting revelations made which hints us of the Italian car manufacturers big time plans for India. One point Kapoor made without any hesitation was that Fiat India does not have a single new model in the pipeline for the year 2012.
Fiat India seems to dedicate the entire 2012 for brand building, developing its fanbase in the country and concentrate on pushing the sales of the newly launched new Fiat Punto and new Fiat Linea on January 3rd. The auto major has taken the first bold step in the direction after breaking away, though with mutual consent with Tata Motors to have its own dealership network beginning with top cities and metros in 2012. Nevertheless, Fiat's development plans does not include the CNG variants of its car models. Well, this is not surprising in the least and can be well understood being an ace player in the diesel engine technology. 2010 Auto Expo is when the auto major had proudly displayed their Fiat Punto CNG variant, but has not seen the light of the day until now, which the Fiat's chief cleverly averted the subject blaming the lack of CNG filling stations in India.
Fiat India has already begun the new year setting new milestones to meet its growth plans and the first Fiat Café launched in New Delhi is the very instance to show how focused the car manufacturer is. The tenth largest car manufacturer across the globe has plans to add another Fiat Café in the city of Pune just to emphasize on the growth potential in India when the most developed countries also feature no more than a single posh Fiat Café concepts. Well, this is what Fiat India has for now, but if it does hatch the idea of bringing the phased out Fiat Sienna back to India, better wait up for the next move from Fiat keeping our eyes and ears wide open.
