Latest development in the Indian automobile industry states that India based car manufacturer, Force Motors is all set to re-launch the Gurkha SUV by the second half of 2013. And what makes us believe on the speculations is the fact that the similar vehicle has been frequently doing test runs across India for quite a long time now. The Gurkha 4x4 is based on the Mercedes Benz G-Wagen's legendary platform, the SUV was not very popular vehicle possibly because of lack of service network and outdated looks and technology ,which compelled the company to phase out the vehicle suddenly about 4 years back.
But change is certainly a good thing and more of necessity to survive in the competitive markets. Now when Mahindra & Mahindra launched a premium yet off-roading capable SUV in the form of Thar, a highly equipped, comfortable yet rugged SUV is what the need of the hour, and Force seems going the same way. The all new Gurkha gets new styling and interiors, while the engine too has been changed, this time it should be 2.2-litre OM611 engine that churns out the maximum of 140bhp and torque of 320Nm.
So the robust platform along with a Daimler designed turbo diesel engine gives the Force Gurkha some impressive specifications. Also, the Gurkha is known to be a great off-roader that offers a hard top design, so more safety to its passenger. The closest competitor of Force Gurkha 4x4 will be Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, however if priced well, it can give a tough competiton to India's top selling SUV, Mahindra Bolero.
