Ford EcoSport Launching on March 4, 2013?

CarDekho has been constantly updating you on the much awaited Compact SUV Ford EcoSport ever since its unveiling at the Indian auto expo, and now TopGear India has reported that the car is finally launching on 4th March 2013, however the company hasn't still said anything officially on the same, so we are considering it as nothing more than a rumour (Check the question mark in the headline :D). While most were expecting the car to launch sometime in April, this news has come as a shocker to everyone, as Ford India hasn't even started the official pre-bookings for the car. What we know is most company's were keeping their big launches in the waiting of union budget, which is being presented today by the Finance Minister. The union budget will further clear whether the auto makers get any benefits or any major changes in the fuel pricing policy.

And like we reported you earlier, Ford will price the vehicle very aggressive, if reports are to believed, the car would be launched somewhere around Rs 5.5-6 lakh (ex-showroom), making it about 1.5 lakh cheaper than its closest competitor, Renault Duster. And there are reasons to believe it, the car is being built with 80 per cent local content and shares most its parts with Fiesta. It's just the award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which will be imported as of now, making the 1.0-litre engine the most expensive yet one of the most fuel efficient and powerful vehicles of its league.

Despite being a 1.0-litre engine, the EcoBoost churns out the impressive 120bhp and is likely to return the mileage over 20kmpl. The other engines on offer would be a 1.5-litre, 90bhp diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol. The features and specifications revealed by the company on its Indian website include the 200mm ground clearance, which according to the company helps it become a true SUV and make sures that potholes, burst water pipes high gutter and speed breakers won't be a problem while driving this vehicle.

The other exciting features include 550mm water wading ability, which will help the vehicle drive well on drenched roads. 35 degree departure, 25 degree approach and 25 degree break over angles however doesn't make it a tough SUV, but a good crossover with decent specifications. The upcoming Ford EcoSport will be equally safe and comfortable having features like side curtain airbags along with the driver and front passenger airbags, push button start and keyless entry, Traction control, ABS, EBD, 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, Hill Launch Assist, 560-litre storage area with rear seats folded, under seat storage at the front, cooled glove box and various others.
