Modified On Jul 05, 2023 01:27 PM By Tarun for Maruti Invicto

‘Engage’ could be what Maruti may call MPV, which will be revealed on July 5

Update (05/07/23): Maruti Invicto has been launched in India, with prices starting from Rs 24.79 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom pan India).

  • The Maruti MPV seems to carry minimal changes over the Hycross.

  • To get a new Nexa-inspired grille, different alloy wheels, and new detailing for the LED tail lamps.

  • To feature a panoramic sunroof, 10-inch touchscreen system, ventilated front seats, and dual-zone AC.

  • It will be the first Maruti to get the radar-based ADAS technology.

  • To use the Innova’s 2-litre petrol engine with the strong-hybrid technology as an option.

Maruti is all set to reveal its brand-new MPV on July 5 and here’s the first undisguised spy shot of it. It will likely be called the Maruti Engage and a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross.

The spy shot shows the Maruti MPV with minimal changes over the Hycross, to differentiate itself. Up front, you get the Nexa-inspired chrome grille. The front profile, save for the grille, looks the same as the Toyota MPV.

We can spot multiple mules of the Maruti MPV, in which one gets a different alloy wheel design. We can expect a new alloy wheel design onboard the Maruti as well. The side and rear look identical to the Toyota MPV, save for the Nexa-inspired tail lamp design at the back.

The interior of the Maruti MPV will be styled similarly to the Hycross, with a dual-tone shade and an identical feature list as well. It will get a panoramic sunroof, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and powered Ottoman seats on the second row. Up to six airbags, a 360-degree camera, TPMS, and ADAS will cover safety.

It will borrow the Hycross’ 2-litre petrol engine, which gets a strong-hybrid technology as an option. The hybrid version of the MPV churns out up to 186PS and claims an economy of up to 23.24kmpl. While the petrol variants get a CVT transmission, the hybrid is paired with an e-CVT (single speed transmission).

The Innova Hycross is priced from Rs 18.55 lakh to Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom), and the Maruti MPV will carry a similar price tag. Just like the Toyota, the Maruti MPV won’t have any direct rivals but will be a premium alternative to the Kia Carens.

Maruti is already having a tough time keeping up with Toyota's 3 cylinder hybrid engine. Going for the bigger 4 cylinder units is asking for trouble.
