The Hyundai Alcazar’s entry-level diesel is pricier than the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus by over Rs 1.5 lakh. Tata’s SUV is only Rs 4,000 more affordable than the MG offering.
-
The Alcazar is offered with the same 1.5-litre diesel engine as offered in the Creta and Seltos. It makes 115PS and 250Nm and is available with the choice of 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
-
Both the Hector Plus and Safari get a 2.0-litre engine that makes 170PS and 360Nm mated to a 6-speed manual. Only the Tata SUV offers it with a 6-speed automatic transmission as well.
-
While the seating layout (six or seven seater) for the Alcazar and Hector Plus depends on the variant, the Tata Safari offers a six-seater layout with captain seats in the top-spec XZ+ trim only.
-
The top-spec diesel-automatic variants of the Creta and Seltos are cheaper than the entry-level diesel-automatic Alcazar. Also, they’re only Rs 40,000 more expensive than the entry-level diesel-automatic Tata Safari.
-
The Creta SX diesel-automatic (one below top variant) is also more affordable than the entry-level diesel Alcazar.
-
It is also worth noting that the entry-level diesel variants of the Creta and Seltos start from around Rs 10.5 lakh. Their higher variants are priced similar to entry variants of the Safari and Hector Plus, and are better equipped in terms of features and comforts.
Takeaways
-
The entry-level pricing for the Hyundai Alcazar is a lot higher than its three-row rivals like the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. However, the Alcazar offers a lot more features and comforts as standard such as a panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology, and cruise control. These features are offered on the higher trims of its rivals.
-
The Hector Plus is the more affordable petrol offering while the diesel-only Safari is most expensive in its top-spec variant.
-
Hyundai’s latest SUV offering will also be competing against the upcoming Mahindra XUV700, the spiritual successor to the XUV500. The XUV700 will be available with petrol and diesel engine options, both with manual and automatic transmissions. It is expected to offer segment-first ADAS features, a premium cabin and an AWD (all-wheel-ride variant) variant as well.
-
All the above-mentioned three-row SUVs are still more affordable than premium five-seater SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen T-Roc, Citroen C5 Aircross and most variants of the Jeep Compass which are priced north of Rs 20 lakh.
-
The Hyundai Alcazar can also appeal to those who were looking for a Hyundai Creta or a Kia Seltos with a bigger boot while also getting some additional features. By folding down the third row of seats, the Alcazar is still a comfortable family SUV with lots more luggage space to ferry more items for a long trip or fitting in larger items when needed.
