The SUV made its debut at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo and is likely to launch here before the festive season.
Hyundai continues to test the upcoming third-generation Tucson in the country. Recently, it has been spied on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway. The SUV is slated to sit between the two popular products from the Korean automaker – the Creta and the Santa-Fe. Since the debut of the third-gen model in February it has generated a lot of anticipation in the market.
In an interview with us during the Auto Expo, a Hyundai official said that the company will bring the Tucson through the CKD (completely knocked down units) route, with close to 50 per cent localization. Hyundai is most likely to price it in the vicinity of Rs 17-18 lakh. Its arch rival would be the Honda CR-V and, unlike the CR-V, the Tucson will have a diesel option as well.
The first generation Tucson was launched in the year 2005 and was discontinued in 2010 due to low demand. Hyundai skipped the second generation model from the country and has reintroduced the brand with the current third-gen model. Speaking of the test mule, the spied version is probably the top-end variant of the SUV as it features dual-LED projector headlamps.
In terms of features, the new Tucson will share most of its features with the new Elantra, which is also reportedly coming this year.
