The Kia Seltos witnessed a major drop in monthly sales while the Maruti Grand Vitara saw the biggest growth
In May 2023, the compact SUV sales dipped by 4.8 percent overall compared to April 2023. The Hyundai Creta was the only one to cross the 10,000 unit sales mark, while most models witnessed a drop in their month-on-month (MoM) sales, with the Kia Seltos facing the highest decline, at over 40 percent.

As is usually the headline, the Hyundai Creta was the best-selling compact SUV of the month in May 2023. Its tally came really close to the 14,500, while its rivals couldn’t even cross 10,000 units. The tally of the next highest selling moniker in this segment was lower by more than 5,000 units.

Sales numbers for the Mahindra Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are listed as one. Collectively, it crossed the 9,000 units sales mark and keeps its spot in the list despite the small drop in MoM demand. Mahindra has also confirmed that it will increase its production capacity over the next six months to reduce the waiting period on its SUVs.

With over 8,500 dispatches last month, Maruti Grand Vitara has registered a MoM sales growth of over 14.5 percent.

Kia Seltos took the biggest hit in MoM sales with over 40 percent decline, and nearly half its average monthly sales of the last six months. This drop could be linked to the facelifted version of the Seltos which is slated to arrive soon and the carmaker could be winding down output for the outgoing model.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has also witnessed the MoM sales growth of over 18 percent, but it still only managed 3,090 unit sales.

Both Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun SUVs also saw their monthly sales decline in May compared to April. The Kushaq’s went down by 22 percent and the Taigun suffered 2.6 percent. These SUVs have a combined market share of less than 10 percent. However, Volkswagen has recently launched the new GT Line variants of the Taigun.

MG Astor continues to be the lowest-selling model in the compact SUV space and its monthly figures continue to drop. This time MG hardly managed to sell out 600 units of the compact SUV.
