Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter registered sales of 39,122 units (31,822 units), up 22.9% taking aggregate sales to 59,229 units (55,552 units), up 6.6% .
Commenting on the March domestic sales, Mr Arvind Saxena, Director - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “We could meet our expectations in March as there was considerable interest to beat the expected price hike in the Union Budget. The market continues to pose many challenges; things can improve if interest rates come down this quarter.”
Exports were 20,107 units in March from 23,730 units in the corresponding month last year. “Export markets are doing well but as the domestic market had greater buoyancy our export lines were diverted for the domestic market.” Mr Saxena said. The segment-wise cumulative sales for March 2012 are: A2 segment 51,336 units (Eon, Santro, i10, i20); A3 Segment 7,679 units (Accent and Verna); A5 segment 92 Units (Sonata); Santa Fe (SUV) 122 units.
