Hyundai recently launched the Grand i10 Nios in India. With its premium styling and added feature list, it takes the fight to the Maruti Swift. You can read about the variant-wise comparison between the two hatchbacks here. 

We’ve now tested both to see how their fuel efficiency compares in the real world. In this comparison, we will be looking at the results of both petrol and diesel versions of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Swift. However, both are manual transmission variants only.

Let’s take a look at their engine specs and ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency first.

If we go by the ARAI claimed figures, the Swift wins for both petrol and diesel engines. But these efficiency tests are conducted under controlled environments. Let’s see how the fuel efficiency of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Swift compare in real-world conditions.

Petrol Comparison

According to our test figures, the Swift is more frugal both in the city and on the highway.

Whether you drive predominantly in the city, on the highway or a mix of both, the petrol-MT Swift will take you farther on a litre of petrol than the petrol-MT Grand i10 Nios. 

Diesel

Again, according to our test results, the Swift is the more efficient option here both in the city and on the highway. The Grand i10 Nios and Swift are almost neck and neck in the city, but the latter pulls ahead comfortably in highway figures.

No matter where you drive -- city, highway, or a mix of both, the Swift will always give you more bang for your buck.

Verdict

If you are choosing between the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Swift and fuel efficiency is your main criteria, we suggest you pick the Swift, be it petrol or diesel. Both versions are notably more frugal than their Grand i10 Nios counterparts.
