Hyundai India, the country's second largest carmaker has recently phased out its one of the most successful sedans, Accent, creating a new space for a new vehicle. We earlier informed you that Hyundai is working on a Grand i10 based compact sedan and a compact SUV for the Indian market. The new compact sedan will come as a replacement for Accent, and will compete against the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze. However, the company will continue to produce Accent at its manufacturing unit in India, to export it to other nations including Algeria.
While Honda and Nissan are ready with their affordable multi-purpose vehicles Mobilio and Datsun Go+ respectively, Hyundai is also planning to introduce an all-new MPV for the Indian car market. The current industry trend suggests that the demand for compact family cars like Amaze, EcoSport, Duster, Dzire, Ertiga, Enjoy has increased quite significantly. SO, Hyundai is also aiming to mark its presence in these segments in the next two years.
Hyundai Grand i10 hatchback is based on a new platform, and the same platform will also be used to manufacture the compact sedan and SUV. However, few media reports suggest that the mini SUV will be based on a new platform, and will derive its some design cues from Santa Fe. The company will first introduce a compact sedan in 2014 and then a mini sports utility vehicle and a multi-purpose vehicle.
While carmakers are doing their final preparations for the next year's Indian Auto Expo, there is possibility that Hyundai could unveil any of these three models, probably the compact sedan. The notchback will be a perfect answer to the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze, as both vehicles are also based on Swift and Brio hatchbacks, respectively.
