After a hell lot of spy shots, Toyota has officially taken wraps off the 2016 Fortuner which will go head-to-head with the new upcoming 2015 Ford Endeavour in the country!
Toyota has revealed the next-generation Fortuner simultaneously in Thailand and Australia today. The 2015 Ford Endeavour rival will go on sale later this year in both the countries, Indian debut is expected early next year. In Thailand, the new Fortuner is priced in-between - 1,199,000 to 1,529,000 Baht approximately Rs. 22.25 Lac to 29.69 Lac; expect similar prices in the country.
The new Fortuner continues to feature a body on frame architecture, just like the current SUV. But the flamboyance levels have been rocketed to the moon. At the first glance, the 2016 Fortuner gives you an impression that it's a totally new territory compared to the aesthetics of outgoing Fortuner, not a single bit has been carried forward. However, the all-in-all macho feel of the outgoing Fortuner has been considerably toned down, the automaker has ditched the rather conventional layout like the current one.
At the outset, you’ll see a huge chrome twin-slat grille flanked by sleeker swept back headlamps. Toyota offers optional bi-LED lighting with LED daytime running lights. Coming to the sides, it gets optional 17 and 18-inch radials with machined alloys, the protruding wheel arches have been toned down this time. Moreover, there’s a noticeable kink in the window line around the C-pillar of the new Fortuner! While the D-pillar is a floating type just like the outgoing model. The tail lamps feature wraparound layout and are LEDs. To accentuate the bling, there’s a subtle amount of chrome appliques on the SUV - on the window line, fog lamp housing and above the rear licence plate.
The interiors have taken heavy inspirations from the Corolla Altis’ cabin, the layout of the dash, the colour schemes reminds you of the same, which isn’t a bad thing at all. The Innova-inspired dull and aging interiors of the current Fortuner are gone for good. There’s a large touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel and seats.
Below is the spec chart of the diesel Fortuner which will enter India. Apart from this, in other markets, it is also available with a 2.7 litre Dual VVT-i petrol motor churning out 166 hp at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
