Honda, the Japanese automaker has finally unveiled the India-bound Honda Mobilio at the Indonesian Motor Show. The new multi-purpose vehicle has been developed specifically for Asian markets. It is based on the Brio platform, and is expected to be showcased at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The company also displayed the Brio Satya, which will qualify for the Low Cost Green Car program implemented by the Indonesian government.
The Honda Mobilio is the company's first model to be introduced in the lower priced MPV category, which is growing at a fast pace in the developing nations. Despite being a compact MPV, it offers spacious cabin space with a three row seat configuration for seven, showing the company's philosophy of "Man Maximum Machine Minimum". The vehicle has a ground clearance of 185mm, which is equal to the ground clearance of various SUVs plying on roads.
The Honda Mobilio is powered by a 1.5L i-VTEC, 4-cylinder gasoline engine which also does duty in the company's flagship City sedan. The engine churns out maximum power output of 116bhp, and the vehicle offers an excellent driving performance and fuel economy.
Moreover, the company also exhibited the next-generation super sports model NSX Concept, as well as the new Brio Sports (1.3L), a successor model to the Thai-made Brio which became the best-selling vehicle in its class.
Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., said, "The Honda Mobilio is the first model Honda has developed especially for the Indonesian market. Working closely with Honda operations here to study the unique needs of Indonesian customers, this Honda Mobilio will fulfill the dreams of Indonesian customers for an affordable family car featuring Honda's high standard of quality. We will continue to support the expansion of Honda business in Indonesia by introducing new products that meet the needs of our Indonesian customers."
