Mini Countryman will probably hit the Indian streets sometime in late 2016. A production-spec test mule of the car has been spied making rounds in China. The spy shots also provide a detailed look into the interior of the car. One can spot the LED headlamps (which features LED DRLs) and taillights on the car.
The interiors of the car will incorporate Mini Connected infotainment system, LED ambient lighting, Mini Head-Up Display, initial brake function, which will work in-hand with pedestrian and collision warning. One can easily spot that the switchgear, HVAC knobs and even the steering wheel featured in this Countryman that are shared with the current lineup of Minis.
Mini Countryman will feature a range of engine options, that will include Mini's TwinPower Turbo three- and four-cylinder engines that will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. These units will be shared with other cars in the new Mini lineup. There is also a possibility that the next-generation Countryman will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The power-plants might come mated to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The car will also share many of its components with the parent company's compact crossover, the second generation BMW X1.
The next generation Countryman will retain its retro-modern styling and will feature a front-wheel drive configuration. The car will share the same UKL platform that is also found in the second generation Mini lineup. There is a possibility that the next-gen Countryman will be offered in both Front-Wheel Drive, as well as Rear-Wheel Drive configuration.
