Jaguar launches locally assembled XJ in Mumbai

Tata Motors owned Jaguar re-launched it's luxury sedan XJ in an event in Mumbai day before. To be manufactured locally at the facility in Pune, the XJ 3.0L Diesel will be available in two derivatives, the Premium Luxury and Portfolio. The auto major has priced the XJ Premium luxury variant at INR 92.10 lakhs, while the cost of Jaguar XJ Portfolio trim starts from INR 98.69 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai).

Rohit Suri, Vice President, Jaguar Land Rover India, said, “We are delighted to introduce our flagship Jaguar XJ, the epitome of extraordinary luxury in Mumbai. The new 2014 XJ has innovative features that provide an enhanced appeal to discerning and successful individuals who have a refined taste for elegant British style, luxury, design and sophistication.”

The Jaguar XJ comes with various added features such as rear seat comfort pack with three massage seat functions, increased rear headroom, electric rear side window blinds, LED reading lights, 25.9 cm (10.2) rear infotainment screens and a new rear business table. The XJ also features an updated start-stop system, which uses a Twin Solenoid Starter (TSS) to shut down the engine when the car stops, and restarts as soon as the driver accelerates.

The diesel powered 2014 Jaguar XJ comes equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 mill that churns out 272 bhp of max power and 600 nm of peak torque. The engine sends power to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Despite of huge size, the luxury sedan sprints 0-100 kmph in 6.4 seconds with an electronically limited top whack of 250 kmph.

Along with the XJ, the brand assembles its XF sedan and the Land Rover Freelander at the same Pune facility. Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz too started assembling its luxury sedan the S-Class in India, which is actually a prime rival to the XJ.
