Update: Legendary automaker Jaguar finally provided a full look at the company’s first ever SUV, F-Pace at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. Expected to launch in the second half of the year, Jaguar F-Pace will be taking on some powerful names in its segment including BMW X5, Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7. Jaguar F-Pace has a muscular appearance on the rear portion while the vehicle is the third product to come out as a result of the company’s light aluminum architecture. Jaguar’s next addition to its current product portfolio, its first-ever Sports Utility Vehicle, is destined to be called the 'F-Pace.' Confirmed to arrive in 2016, the SUV will be based on the C-X17 concept car displayed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, and its name F-Pace signifies a close relation with their F-Type sports car as well as brand's famous 'Grace, Pace, Space' slogan.
“The Jaguar F-Pace, inspired by the F-Type, represents a perfectly judged balance of style, performance and practicality,” Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, explained. “It offers a unique combination of Jaguar sports car inspired exterior design, fused beautifully with a thoroughly practical and spacious luxury interior—the F-Pace is our family sports car.”
The F-Pace will be underpinned on an all-new advanced lightweight aluminum platform, the iQ[Al]. Debuted recently in the 2017 XE sedan, the new platform is a light and stiff version of the sister brand- Land Rover's Premium Lightweight Architecture. The standard powertrains in the F-Pace will include Jaguar’s Ingenium range of turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinders, and likely the carmaker's supercharged 3.0-litre V-6.
To arrive sometime in 2016, the SUV will take on the likes of the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC (next-gen GLK-Class) in the premium small crossover segment. The F-Pace will be produced at the Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant.
Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover Global Sales Director, said “In 2015 we will celebrate Jaguar’s 80th year. We have started it by announcing our first performance crossover which we consider to be the ultimate practical sports car- a car that builds on the marque’s founding ideals of Grace, Pace and Space to become one of the most innovative Jaguars we’ve ever developed. The F-PACE has now begun its engineering and development testing programme ahead of the new model going on sale in 2016.”.
