The strike at the MSI Manesar plant has reached the 14th day today and the situation remains unresolved yet. However the positive aspect is, there are some efforts put from the Haryana Government’s side to bring a closure to the labour unrest. The talks between the MSI management, worker representatives in the presence of the Government officials had commenced at 11 AM yesterday without any signs of summing up. This is the second attempt made by the Government after the discussions failed on the 18th October. At some point of time during yesterday night, things began to look up in favour of a conclusion. Nevertheless, both parties stuck to their grounds without giving in.
RC Bhargava , the Chairman of MSI had expressed hope to see an end to the impasse in another 4-5 days. He said the discussions are being held between the company management and the workers for past three days without any success. According to the reports, the factories were able to roll out 200 cars yesterday after the workers strength reached 600 at the plant. Due to the worker agitation at the Maruti plants including the Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd (SPIL), the component supply had been hit drastically. As a result, the production at the Manesar and the Gurgaon plants were put on hold on October 13th and 14th. The operations at the Manesar plant are still limited, while the production has reached the normal capacity at the Gurgaon plant. The Maruti cars including Maruti Swift, Maruti SX4 and Maruti Alto are manufactured at the Manesar plant. The flagship model Maruti Swift production is said to begin since yesterday. However, the production of Maruti Gypsy, Maruti Omni, Maruti Eeco and Maruti 800 remain unaffected.
