The Defender 90 and 110 now get three engine options: two petrol and one diesel. The smaller of the two petrol engines is a 2.0-litre unit that makes 300PS and 400Nm. The larger 3.0-litre unit makes 400PS and 550Nm and is assisted by a mild-hybrid system. This is the engine that is now being offered on the Defender 110 as well. The sole diesel engine on offer is a 3.0-litre unit that makes 300PS and 650Nm. All engines are turbocharged and come with AWD (all-wheel-drive).

The smaller Defender 90 measures 4,583mm in length and has a 2,587mm long wheelbase. The Defender 110, on the other hand, measures 5,018mm in length and has a wheelbase of 3,022mm. The width and height of both vehicles are almost identical. The Defender 90’s shorter length means it can only be had in a five-seater layout, with a jump seat in the front row allowing it to seat six when required.
Land Rover is offering the Defender 90 in three variants: Defender, x-Dynamic, and Defender X. The first two can be teamed with S, SE, and HSE add-on packs like other Land Rovers. The Defender X, on the other hand, is a fully loaded offering in itself. The carmaker is also offering four accessory packs: Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban. These will help to visually differentiate the Defender.
The Defender 90 features the Pivi infotainment system that has its own battery back-up so that it can load almost immediately once you turn on the engine. The vehicle also supports OTA updates so that customers can receive all the latest updates in software without having to visit the service centre.

Being the hardcore off-road-oriented variant of the Defender, the Defender 90 is equipped with a configurable terrain response mode. It allows the driver to configure minute details about the vehicle to suit the terrain underneath. It also has a new Wade programme that configures all possible vehicle systems so that the Defender 90 can wade through water easily.
The Defender 90 is a bit of a niche product, and as such, doesn’t have any direct rival. The only one that gets close to it is the Jeep Wrangler, but even that is no match for the Defender 90’s price.
