It is safe to assume that both of these models will be India-bound!
Rumour has it that Lexus will showcase its new entry-level SUV, the UX, and a seven-seat version of the RX SUV at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in November. The former made its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show as the UX concept in September 2016.
Lexus, Toyota’s luxury arm, entered the Indian market in March this year with three products: the ES, RX and LX. All the three vehicles are currently imported into the country via the CBU route. It is anticipated that Lexus will add more models, including these upcoming ones, to its Indian line-up in due time.
The UX will sit below the NX (recently updated and possibly India-bound), RX and LX (available in select markets including India) as an entry-level crossover/SUV from Lexus. The UX will compete with the likes of the Audi Q2 (India-bound this year), BMW X1 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA, among others.
The production-spec version of the UX is expected to be relatively toned down compared to its flamboyant-looking concept from last year. The SUV is believed to be based on Toyota’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, especially the version that underpins the C-HR crossover. If Lexus ever plans to introduce the UX in India, it has to be locally assembled to make it competitive in the segment. The C-HR is also reportedly in consideration for the Indian market.
The seven-seat RX (likely to be called RX L) will be an extended version of the RX SUV, with similar styling as well. An extra third-row of seats will make it more competitive against SUVs such as the XC90 and the Audi Q7, among others.
Stay tuned to CarDekho as official details about the UX and RX L are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
