In order to realize its dream to be a world-leader in the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment cars, Mahindra and Mahindra has supposedly binned its plans to bring recently acquired brand Ssangyong’s cars in India. Presently, Mahindra has only one sedan in India-Mahindra Verito, the rechristened Mahindra Logan besides a fleet of SUVs such as Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Xylo and Mahindra Thar.

Mahindra bought the South Korean firm Ssangyong last year, may be inspired by the company's global SUV strategy. As part of the strategy, Mahindra may think of bringing two of Ssangyong’s utility segment cars- Ssangyong Rexton and Ssangyong Korando C into the Indian market. If we further relate the present inference by Mahindra, then this may be reason behind Mahindra’s decision to defer pulling in cars from Renault’s portfolio. With this probability we can comfortably assume that Mahindra may also defer adding Ssangyong's hi-end sedan, Chairman to its list of sedan cars in India. However, sources still believe that Mahindra may do a revamp of the presently left-hand driven Chairman before thinking of introducing it to the Indian market.

With such projections, it is believed that Mahindra Verito will be the only sedan segment car by the Mumbai based utility car major Mahindra. However, there are unconfirmed reports that Mahindra may also think of introducing a small car under the name Verito. Though the features and pricing of the small car are not known but it is for sure that Mahindra may target the expanding small car segment market and keep the prices competitive.

It is also believed that Mahindra is following such plans to focus on its SUV segment as major global carmakers are also following a similar strategy, said sources. However, Ford India has a fleet of passenger cars and only one SUV in the Indian market. Juxtaposed to Ford, Mahindra has more of SUVs and only one sedan- Mahindra Verito.
