Last week, Mahindra unveiled details and images of its upcoming car, KUV100. Earlier codenamed as S101, the car will be the first micro SUV in the Indian market and will be followed by Maruti Suzuki Ignis. A Mahindra dealership told CarDekho that bookings for the KUV100 are open at a price of Rs. 10,000 and deliveries for the car will start from January 30, 2016. Mahindra introduced an all new family of petrol and diesel engines called mFALCON for the KUV100. Initially, these engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission could be introduced in the near future. KUV 100 price is expected to be around Rs. 4-7 lacs and it will be launched on January 15, 2016.
The car looks bulky with the design being dominated by two string body lines which curve into the side profile. The alloy wheels look good in the picture, but we will have to wait and see if they look as impressive in the 3-D world. The rear door handle is placed near the C pillar to add to the bulkiness of the car. The headlamp unit gets DRLs and is elongated to feature the mFalcon badge on the side profile. The grille is inspired from XUV featuring the same, but smaller “whiskers” holding the Mahindra Insignia. The large air dam interrogated in the bumpers help give the car a bold SUV-like stance. New fog lamp unit is placed in the bumper and has a rectangular shape to compliment the front look. What Mahindra has done very well is that the car has ABS standard in all 4 variants and airbags are also optional across all variants.
The all new mFALCON family currently have 2 engines which are G80 petrol and D75 diesel. The petrol is a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder naturally aspirated block which produces 82 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Diesel is a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo block which generates 77bhp at 3,750 rpm and 190 Nm of max torque in-between 1,750-2,250 rpm. We will have to wait till January 15, 2016 to see how the engines perform. But sure enough, given Mahindra’s record with SUVs, the car will give a tough time to the likes of Ford Figo, Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Swift and Tata Zica.
