The Country’s leading utility vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra and Mahindra is once again set to grab the limelight with the launch of compact MPV, Mahindra Xylo Mini and the electric car, new Reva NXR. The launches are expected to take place during the 2012 Auto Expo. Mahindra and Mahindra is bound to make a huge profit margin, which is clearly evident from the recent launch of Mahindra XUV 500 at an introductory price of Rs 10.8 lakhs. Let us analyse how. The auto major had apparently spent a sum of Rs 550 crores during the course of 2-year development phase of XUV 500.

In comparison to this, Hyundai Motors had spent Rs 900 crores in the development of Hyundai Eon, which is far more than our home-grown company had borne. This explains the ability of M&M to place its models at a competitive price, not just for its recent launch, but for all its offerings.  Mahindra XUV 500 stands glorious will its killer price tag of Rs 10.8 lakhs for its base variant bagging 10,000 bookings in a matter of few weeks after the launch. The company had to pause the bookings for a while to catch-up with the demand. Well, this is the big secret behind Mahindra’s low priced models. Coming back to Mahindra Xylo Mini, the compact SUV is a toned down version of the Mahindra Xylo in terms of dimensions and engine.

The Xylo Mini is a 5-seater expected to come with a 1.2 L 3-cylinder CRDI engine from the range of Mahindra’s CRDI engines. Mahindra Xylo Mini is also likely to benefit from the low development cost to place it at Rs 5 lakhs for its base-variant. Mahindra Xylo Mini will have the advantage of the low price in comparison to the premium hatchbacks and the sedans with the consumers looking for a small family car. Mahindra Reva NXR is another trump card for the auto major with lots of additional features from  the previous Reva models. The auto major has developed the car to overcome all the drawbacks from its predecessors to attain a top speed of 104 kmph with a 160 km range per single charge. The earlier Reva cars were considered to be slow paced cars with extremely low maximum speed.  A Mahindra Reva price of Rs 4-5 lakhs is a good package for this frugal high performer.
