Mahindra Marazzo BS6 vs BS4: What’s The Difference?

Has the Marazzo undergone a simple BS4 to BS6 transformation or is there more to the story than what meets the eye?

We earlier reported that the Mahindra Marazzo would soon become BS6 compliant. In the process, it was expected to receive a variant shake-up and some new features on the lower variants. Now we have got our hands on a brochure for the BS6 Marazzo and can pinpoint the differences between the BS4 and BS6 Marazzo. Let’s start with the engine. 

Engine

The only difference here is that the engine is now BS6 compliant. It continues to make 121PS and 300Nm and continues to drive the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. Mahindra will continue to offer Eco mode that reduces the engine output to a more modest 100PS.

Variants

The variant list of the Marazzo has received a shake up, with the biggest change being that the top-of-the-line M8 variant will no longer be on offer. The M4 and M6 variants have been replaced by M4+ and M6+ variants whereas the M2 variant will continue to be offered as is. So does the ‘plus’ in front of the variant names means that they have received feature additions as well?

Features

M2 Variant

Mahindra is offering the M2 variant of the Marazzo with the same amount of kit as before. There are no changes in the brochure. Some of the highlights of this variant are the dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, disc brakes on all four wheels, a separate air conditioning unit for the rear passengers and ISOFIX child seat mounts. 

M4+ Variant

The M4+ variant replaces the M4 and along with the ‘plus’ in front of the name, Mahindra has added 16-inch alloy wheels and steering mounted audio controls into the mix. Other features that continue to be offered are a Bluetooth audio system, four speakers, rear defogger with timer, remote keyless entry and height adjustable driver’s seat.

M6+ Variant

The M6+ variant also gets some new features compared to the outgoing M6 variant. You now get automatic climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera with guidelines, multi-point lumbar support for the co-driver and driver side auto up/down power window. Some of the older features of the M6 variant that continue to be present on the M6+ variant are a 7-inch resistive touchscreen infotainment system, a dual chamber-single projector headlamp setup and a relatively premium fabric upholstery.

What’s Missing?

The M8 variant’s exclusion from the brochure also means that the Marazzo now comes with fewer features than before. All of the features that were previously offered on the top-spec M8 variant, and have failed to make the cut when it comes to the new top-spec M6+ variant are:

• Emergency calling

• Daytime running LEDs

• Chrome inner door handles

• Cruise control

• Power foldable ORVMs

• Leatherette upholstery 

• Rear window sun shades

• Conversation mirror

• Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

• 2 tweeters

• Voice recognition

• Capacitive touchscreen

• Entry assist lamps

Mahindra no longer offering the M8 variant means that the Marazzo has lost quite a few features. But what it also means is that the top-spec variant is cheaper by more than Rs 1 lakh, despite it now being BS6 compliant. The features that have been booted out of the brochure are ones that added a sense of luxury to the Marazoo, and by giving them a miss, Mahindra has now positioned it closer to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the XL6.
